We are not living in the same world we lived in prior to election night 2016. Women’s rights--human rights--are under a constant state of scrutiny and threat, as if they are something that can be manipulated at whim. Our children and their parents--all of us--are living in a state of fear, given the rattling uptick in mass shootings and gun violence. Hateful and bigoted acts of violence against minority communities seem to be on the rise.
I am deeply concerned. And yet, I am still hopeful--and more determined than ever. Ever since I was re-elected on that very night in 2016, I have made it my priority to protect the rights we hold dear and to act based on the lessons of our past. I have sponsored, supported and voted for marriage equality, protecting and empowering women, common sense gun regulations, supporting small businesses, and funding our infrastructure and education. I hope to continue this work during this critical time for our country and for our state. |
